Shapeshifter Welcome Reception and Artist Talk with Paula Cooley

Humboldt & District Gallery

On Saturday, March 1st at 1:30 p.m., join us at the Gallery for a welcome reception for Shapeshifter by the Saskatoon Potters Guild and an artist talk with Paula Cooley. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome.

The Saskatoon Potters Guild (SPG) was formed in 1962 as an independent non-profit organization. The Guild’s membership is typically 50 – 60 potters annually and ranges from academically trained, professional potters to people just beginning their explorations in clay.
Each year, the SPG invites its membership to submit work for an annual exhibition. This exhibition has a different theme every two years and is juried by an Artist who is not a member of the Guild. The work exhibited here at the Humboldt Art Gallery is from two exhibitions, From Our Hands (2023) and Shapeshifter (2024.) There are 65 works on exhibition made by 20 SPG members plus several contributions by the two jurors, Monique Martin (2023) and Jody Greenman-Barber (2024.)
The 2024 exhibition Shapeshifter celebrates how raw clay can be transformed into everyday domestic ware, an object of rare beauty and inspiration, or a combination of both. Members provided the imagination, creativity and the ‘magic’ to form and transform clay into the works in this exhibition. Some chose to shift their forms by reshaping angles or curves while others varied their style by creating new work exploring a variety of concepts and techniques.
