Embellishments with June Jacobs
Saturday, October 11
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
At the Humboldt and District Gallery
601 Main Street
Learn about the art of embellishing textiles with fibre artist June Jacobs. Bring a piece of fabric, a piece of clothing, an unfinished textile project like quilting, knitting, felting or anything textile that you think could use some embellishment. June will show you examples of how she embellishes her own artworks with dyes, embroidery, buttons, found objects, machine stitching, quilting, buttons, beads, notions, and can suggest ways to turn your piece into something uniquely yours.
There will be a chance to try out a couple of the techniques and time to chat with June about the many creative ways that everyday objects can be turned into works of art.
June Jacobs is a fibre artist and owner of the Handwave Gallery in Meacham, SK. Felting is her predominant medium using natural fibres, wool, alpaca, bison, silk and others combined with natural and contemporary dye techniques. Construction techniques include applique, quilting, and machine sewing and surface embellishment includes embroidery and beading . Her fibre work is inspired by the harsh and severe landscape in which she lives and engages with all the subtleties it can offer. It resonates in her form, her colour palette and surface treatment whether they are sculptural works or wearable garments and accessories. Her own artist studio practice allows her to hone her skills, challenge herself with exhibition of her work in international, national and provincial exhibitions and private commissions.
The cost of this workshop is $20/person, $18 for Gallery Members.
Some embellishment supplies will be provided but participants are free to bring their own if they wish.
