St. Peter's College in Muenster, Sk is hosting a poetry workshop on Saturday, June 8th, from 9am - 4:30pm. To register, please call 682-7888.

POETRY WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: One way poems communicate meaning to the reader via the image. A well-rendered image can convey a world of sensory experience with great economy. In this workshop we'll discuss the poetic image -- what it is, how it makes "sense" to the reader, and how we, as writers, might construct resonant images via close attention to tangible detail and fresh figurative language. Through conversation on contemporary poems, writing exercises, and workshopping, we'll think of ways to fine-tune our poems with an eye towards intensifying imagery.

SHERI BENNING's third collection of poetry, The Season's Vagrant Light: New and Selected Poems, was published in the UK by Carcanet Press. She's published two books in Canada: Thin Moon Psalm and Earth After Rain. Each collection won two Saskatchewan Book Awards. Her poems, essays and stories have appeared in numerous Canadian, British, and Irish anthologies and literary journals. She completed a PhD at the University of Glasgow and currently teaches at the University of Saskatchewan.
