The Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest (CMKC) is a non-profit competition that provides students with cross-cultural and cross-curricular mathematical fun and knowledge. Last year the competition was held in 85 countries and featured over 6 million students from Grades 1 to 12. The competition is newer to Canada, but many European countries view Kangaroo Math as an example of high-level practice in mathematics and numeracy.

St. Peter’s College has previous hosted the CMKC in 2015 and 2016, and is now being asked to host the competition for 2020. A brochure that is attached to this letter goes over some of the specifics but it is also recommend to look at the website for further information (www.mathkangaroo.ca). You can find a link to Frequently Asked Questions at www.mathkangaroo.ca/faq/about/en. A sample list of questions from 2018 has been attached, these cover sample questions from grades 1 to 12. These increase with difficulty as the questions go on, meaning the first questions will be ‘easier’ and more traditional, whereas the later questions will require complex problem solving and logic. Sample booklets dating back to 2002 are available at the website at www.mathkangaroo.ca/samples/en and provide interesting class content and engagement in learning.

The event takes place on Sunday, March 22nd at 10:00 am in Rm. 206. St. Peter’s College will have a site coordinator and a host institution representative to invigilate. Teachers are encouraged to participate but attendance is not required. The contestant's information may only be used for the purposes of the contest and thus no spam will occur.
Registration opened on January 4th with an early bird pricing of $17 per participant until February 23 and a normal pricing of $25 per participant after February 23. There are fee waivers available until February 15th in the event payment could cause issue.

St. Peter’s College will not be listed as an approved site on the website until Friday, February 7th. It is recommended to register after this date.
